Nayan Dutta, a Master Craftsman of Stone cutting & engraving of Susunia, was born in 1959 at Rajagram near Bankura town. He lost his father in his childhood, and her mother compelled to stay at her father's house at Susunia. Nayan went to Village school and studied up to class X but could not continue his studies further due to financial constrain. Since his childhood he keenly observe the Stone cutting and engraving works of local artisans, who are usually make different utencils made of local sand stone and slowly get himself involved with the stone works for bread & butter.
During seventies S.Dorairaj Shilpi of Mahabalipuram Madras, came to Susunia as a Master Trainer of stone engraving works and Nayan got an opportunity for undergoing a yearlong training under his guidance and become a good artisans of stone works particularly Soap Stone, Granite and marble engraving.
He get financial assistance from State Bank of India, Susunia Branch under Rural Employment Generation Programme of Khadi & V. I. Commission.
In 2005 he obtain National Artisans Award for his excellent stone works (Mohan Banshi' (Flute made of stone).
